RBL workshops - are they for me?

So you're itching to have a go at leathercraft? Fantastic! Read on to find out a little more about my leatherwork courses and have some of your questions answered.

Run in small groups of up to five makers, my workshops cater for beginners to leatherwork. Each course focuses on making an item - be it a belt, purse or glasses case- and teaches the skills needed to make the piece from scratch using traditional leatherwork techniques. The courses are very practical and suit hands-on learners.

We work through leather and hardware choices, cutting, stamping and edging skills, building up to exploring saddle stitch. Each technique is taught at a speed that suits the group, so please don't think you'll be too slow or that you can't sew! Skills take time to explore and build up so every group will work at different speeds towards their end product.

All of the tools and materials are provided for you to choose and explore, along with a short background of each. Nothing will be pre-cut or pre-made, giving you complete control over shapes and measurements. Using beautifully aged vegetable tanned leather of the highest quality and solid brass fittings means that you can take home a piece to be proud of and that can be used for years to come!

Most people come along on their own; others book a whole course out with friends. If you need to cancel up to 2 weeks before the course is due to run, you'll receive a full refund, or you can choose a different course date to suit. Being a small business means that I can be flexible and so, if you've got a particular event or date in mind, I can run a course just for you (minimum two participants).

And, of course, you won't go hungry. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available throughout: we need to keep our energy up as the work is physical!

If you have any questions at all about courses, don't hesitate to get in touch. They are a great chance to chat, get creative and learn about a craft that is centuries old - as well as getting to take home your finished creation at the end!
